Driving Urban
transitions

Driving Urban Transitions (DUT) is a European partnership that supports cities in their transformation towards more sustainable and resilient urban environments. It helps policymakers, researchers, and businesses develop and implement innovative solutions for urban transformation. By bridging research, policy, and practice, DUT ensures that cities have the tools and strategies needed to address the challenges of climate change, urbanisation, and resource efficiency.
✅ Developing Integrated Urban Solutions:
-Encourages city-wide strategies that combine mobility, energy, and sustainability.
-Ensures economic feasibility while prioritising climate action.
✅ Bridging Research and Practice:
-Connects scientists, urban planners, and policymakers to implement real-world solutions.
-Helps cities transition from research-based concepts to practical applications.
✅ Enhancing Cross-Sector Collaboration:
-Unites municipalities, private sector leaders, researchers, and citizens to co-create sustainable urban environments.
-Supports knowledge exchange and funding mechanisms to facilitate urban innovation.
✅ Aligning Policies and Funding:
-Works with EU institutions, national governments, and local authorities to ensure seamless urban development.
-Provides financial support for pilot projects and innovative city transformations.
✅ Empowering Citizens and Local Communities:
-Engages residents in shaping the future of their cities.
-Promotes inclusive urban planning where everyone has access to services, mobility, and green spaces.

Positive Energy Districts (PED)
✅ Goal:
Creating urban districts that generate more renewable energy than they consume.
✅ Strategy:
-Promote energy efficiency and smart grids in urban planning.
-Support local energy markets and community-driven sustainability projects.
-Encourage the integration of solar, wind, and other renewable energy sources.

15-Minute City (15mC)
✅ Goal:
Reducing car dependency by designing self-sufficient neighbourhoods where everything is within a 15-minute walk or bike ride.
✅ Strategy:
-Promote mixed-use urban planning that integrates housing, workplaces, shops, schools, and healthcare within walking distance.
-Improve cycling and public transportation networks to make cities more pedestrian-friendly.
-Reduce traffic congestion and create more green spaces for social well-being.

Circular Urban Economies (CUE)
✅ Goal: Implementing a circular economy in cities to reduce waste, reuse materials, and optimise urban resources.
✅ Strategy:
-Develop sustainable waste management and recycling systems.
-Integrate urban farming and regenerative design into city planning.
-Reduce reliance on imported materials by promoting local resource cycles.
